Q: Why do I get busy signals?

A: In the evening, you may hear a message saying "All circuits are busy", or hear a fast busy. This means there are no lines at your local phone switch to connect to, which in turn means you can't connect. Wait a few minutes and then try again.     top^

Q: Why do I get disconnected from the server after I have been on for quite a while?

A:

  1. If you are inactive/idle for 30 minutes, the connection will close.
  2. If you are disconnected while uploading a file or playing a game over the Internet (i.e. Quake), you may need to change your modem initialization string to help your connection.
  3. If you have call waiting and have not turned it off, you will be disconnected when someone tries to call you. Disable it by putting *70, in front of the phone number you dial.
